Gerunds in English

A gerund is a verb form that ends in “-ing” and functions as a noun in a sentence. It can be used in various ways, including as the subject of a sentence, the object of a verb, or the object of a preposition.

For example:

  • Swimming is a great way to stay fit. (Subject)
  • I enjoy reading. (Object of a verb)
  • I am thinking about going to the park. (Object of a preposition)

Gerunds are versatile and can be used in complex grammatical constructions. They can also be used with certain verbs followed by a gerund, such as “enjoy,” “avoid,” “suggest,” and others.
